Sławomir
Mrożek (b.
1930) - Polish dramatist, prose writer, and cartoonist, whose works
explore alienation, abuse of power, conformity, and the limitations of
human freedom under a totalitarian system. Mrożek often uses
surrealistic humor and grotesque situations to reveal the distorted
beliefs of his characters. His most famous plays include Tango
(1964), a multileveled family saga, and Emigranci (1974), about
the collapse of illusions. After spending 33 years abroad, Mrożek
returned to Poland in 1997.
Out at Sea
is a story about three starving men (Fat, Medium and Thin) stuck on a
raft in the middle of an ocean. At some point they agree that one
must be eaten so the two others can survive. Sounds hilarious,
doesn't it?

A
story of hidden passion and forbidden love during times when even the
most intimate aspects of life were controlled by the Soviet Empire.
1967, Legnica (headquarters of the Soviet forces stationed in Poland
from 1945 until 1990). The city, with the largest Russian army unit in
Eastern Europe, is a Soviet enclave closed to outsiders. Yuri (Dmitry
Ulyanov), a young Russian pilot and failed astronaut, is posted to
Legnica with his even younger wife Vera (Svetlana Khodchenkova).
Fascinated with Polish music and poetry Vera wins a Polish-Soviet
"friendship song contest" while singing in both Russian and Polish. This
is when she meets a Polish officer and musician Michał (Lesław Zurek).
Initially Vera rejects the love and passion awakened that evening but
eventually ...
The movie takes the viewer to a world in which together but separate
lived Poles and Russians. Despite a life in constant fear, they loved;
they suffered, and had dreams.....
